Dining in Barjac

Local gastronomy

And now let's sit down to eat

We won't hide it from you. We also love the region for its local produce, its fine restaurants, its vineyards, its producers... A certain art of living, in other words.

You have to take the time to sit on a terrace, stimulate your taste buds and treat yourself. There is something for all tastes and desires, in all seasons.

Sweet onions, Vigan reinette apples, pélardon cheese, chestnuts, figs, olive oil, chicken, capon, brandade de Nîmes, not to mention truffles and cep mushrooms are used in endless variations by the region's restaurateurs. It's worth noting that there are more than 760 organic producers in the Gard, making it one of France's leading departments in this field.

So, fancy a little treat?

Guinguette L'orée des cévennes
On foot along the Auzonnet

Guinguette L'orée des cévennes

In our opinion (subjective ratings out of 3)

There are countless open-air cafés, “guinguette” in french, along the banks of the Cèze and Auzonnet rivers. Each one has its own special charm.

The village café is located in the campsite. Théo serves home-cooked food. The menu features fresh, summery starters. Meat or fish dishes inspired by the barbecue and accompanied by delicious homemade sauces. Themed evenings: paella, mussels and chips, parrillada, BBQ party...

Will you be as lucky as we were to spot a beaver during your meal?

L’auberge La Tournelle
On foot through the village's cobbled streets

L’auberge La Tournelle

Le relais de l’Espinas

In our opinion (subjective ratings out of 3)

You will arrive at this unusual place via the magnificent Route des Crêtes. A café-restaurant, a community space for discovery, exchange and sharing, relaxation, learning, games, shows... A place just the way we like it!

A place that will delight your taste buds with its delicious dishes, prepared and served by volunteers using locally sourced produce. Cheese lovers will enjoy the platter with whole Pélardon cheese and a small salad. A real treat, and what's more, it's well worth the trip!

Booking essential during the season!

Le comptoir de Payzac
In Ardèche, a stone's throw from Gard

Le comptoir de Payzac

In our opinion (subjective ratings out of 3)

This country bistro offers a warm welcome and delicious cuisine in a minimalist industrial setting.

This couple, both former research engineers, returned to their roots when the village's last shop, the old bakery-café-grocery store, closed down for good. They took over the premises and while Julie set about restoring the building, Victorin trained in cooking and baking. On the menu: slow-cooked meat dishes made to traditional recipes, roasted Camembert with garrigue herbs and perfect eggs.

Julie and Élise provide cheerful and friendly service.

La Fontaine du Mas
Creative, subtle and unexpected cuisine

La Fontaine du Mas

In our opinion (subjective ratings out of 3)

Dimitri in the kitchen and Gwenaelle serving, it's the winning combination for a delicious meal and a pleasant time.

The cuisine is inventive, refined and made from local produce, sourced from short supply chains. The service is efficient, friendly and professional.

This is a wonderful place that we recommend without hesitation for an excellent experience in the warm atmosphere of the exposed stone dining room or on the terrace in fine weather.

La guinguette de la Lecque
An institution in the land of open-air cafés

La guinguette de la Lecque

In our opinion (subjective ratings out of 3)

We recommend La Guinguette de la Lecque for its consistency. This establishment has been in the same family for around thirty years. The dishes are simple, delicious and generous. The service is efficient and pleasant. And what can we say about the charming setting on the banks of the Cèze?

Save room for the salad and welcome pâté, which aren't necessarily listed on the menu... or you won't be able to finish your meal!

During peak season, book as early as possible: the restaurant is often fully booked a week in advance!

Le clos des arts
One of the few restaurants open in winter

Five minutes from home by car, Le Clos des Arts offers a classic yet inspired menu. The dishes are beautifully presented and full of flavour. The service is impeccable.
