In the mid-2010s, after various career ventures and changes in our family lives, we felt the need to forge a shared history, a history as a couple, and to build a life together. As a pair.
Although we had different backgrounds, we found a common thread dating back to our childhood: our summer holidays in the Cévennes region of the Ardèche.
As adults, we had kept the dream in the back of our minds of creating a place that brings people together, a place to live, a place for creativity and encounters.
And so we began scouring the southern Ardèche, searching for a place that could combine tourism with culture. After numerous visits, architectural plans and abandoned business plans, we found THE spot that had the potential to make our dream a reality… in the Gard! Just 15 minutes from our original ‘golden triangle’.
We fell in love with Les Terrasses, two buildings nestled against the medieval village of Saint-Jean-de-Valériscle: three holiday cottages built in the early 2000s, ready for immediate use, with outbuildings that gave us hope of creating our own cultural space.
The gîtes’ location ticked almost all the boxes on our wish list: not in the thick of the tourist hustle and bustle but not far away either, neither in town nor too remote, nestled between the river, the garrigue and the mountains…
And so here we are on 11 January 2022, as the new owners. We were going to be able to share our love of the region, its terroir, the Cevennes locals—sometimes gruff but always down-to-earth—and the creativity that hangs in the air…
And it is with you, today, that we would like to share our passion for the Cevennes!
